More offices in Singapore were awarded the Green Office Label by the Singapore Environmental Council (SEC) this year, and ABB was one of several companies to achieve the certification.
Singapore, November 6, 2009 – ABB, the leading power and automation company, was awarded the Green Office Label by the SEC, in recognition for the company’s consistent efforts in implementing climate change initiatives over the years.
Besides consistent environmental campaigns to cultivate awareness and promote sustainable behavior, this year, ABB decided to drastically improve the way the company uses resources and disposes waste. Some measures include replacement of copiers that reduce paper consumption and toner cartridge dramatically, as well as a system of waste disposal where employees gave up their individual waste paper baskets for centralized recycling bins. ABB also installed more energy saving lighting, presence detectors and solar films to reduce energy consumption.
James Foo, president and country manager for ABB in Singapore says, “This is just a small step our company is taking to improve our environmental footprint. I am pleased that many companies in Singapore are doing the same, and our combined efforts will be significant in achieving greater environmental consciousness in Singapore. This Green Office Label certification is the result of every ABB employee’s contribution, to help us become a greener company. The ABB Group has an initiative worldwide to reduce energy use by 2.5% annually at all sites. We will continue to pursue improvements and set higher sustainability goals. I hope more companies will join in and begin to implement environmentally friendly practices and policies.”
